The aim of the Suffragists is to achieve the right to vote for women through constitutional actions.

There are regional groups of Suffragists that hold public meetings and campaign locally.

The National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies was formed in 1897 and is led by Millicent Fawcett.

The NUWSS is instrumental in building legal and constitutional support for the enfranchisement of women.

In 1903, Emmeline Pankhurst founded the Women's Social and Political Union with other women frustrated by the lack of progress.

Their motto is 'Deeds not words' to show their desire to physically campaign through protests.

They are determined to obtain the right to vote for women.

They have the belief that a more radical approach is needed as peaceful tactics no longer seem impactful.

The initial tactics of the WSPU is to cause disruption.

The lack of government action led to members breaking the laws in order to garner the attention needed to get change.

This resulted in imprisonment and later on, hunger strikes.

The militant action used by the WSPU is successful in getting a high amount of attention for the campaign.
